(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Grant McLennan, co-leader of legendary Australian rock band the Go-Betweens, died May 6 at his home in Brisbane at the age of 48. The singer/songwriter died in his sleep; the cause is not yet known.
McLennan was known as one of Australia’s top artists and was a major factor in bringing Australian music to the global stage. As a founding member of the seminal rock band with Robert Forster, McLennan helped create some of the most heralded, but often painfully underrated, pop music of the ‘80s.
The band released six albums from 1981 until they disbanded in 1989. McLennan then recorded four solo albums, and later went on to form Jack Frost with Steve Kilbey of the Church, according to CMJ.
After a 10-year break, the Go-Betweens reformed at the beginning of 2000 to release three studio albums, most recently 2005’s “Oceans Apart.” McLennan’s auto-biographical “Cattle And Cane” was recently named one of the 10 greatest Australian songs of all time by the Australian Performing Rights Association. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
